Mosquito Districts

Each district has its own board with members whom have been appointed by the Lewis and Clark County Commission in accordance with Resolution 2011-191. The Noxious Weed Supervisor is also the Mosquito District Coordinator and assists each board in an advisory capacity with record preparation and retention, as well as other County standard practices and procedures. 

General Mosquito Management Policy

The Helena Valley Mosquito District & Craig-Wolf Creek Mosquito District have an obligation to monitor and manage mosquitoes within their district to benefit those paying for the service. Each District will handle complaints and concerns on a case basis when it is brought to their attention.

Helena Valley Mosquito District

History, Resolutions, and General Information:

  • Originally formed and boundaries designated in 1976 through Resolutions; 1976-14 and 1976-17 by the Lewis & Clark County Commission.
  • Authorization to create this district is set forth under Title 7, Chapter 22, Part 24 Mosquito Control Districts.
  • In 1987 Resolution 1987-21 was established and annexed in the Birdseye area and amended the boundaries of the district.
  • The District operated under the County financial system and begins on the 1st of July and ends the last day of the following June, running on a fiscal year.
  • The District utilizes County Public Works Department for budget and planning requests.
  • Headquarters for the District are located at the Lewis and Clark County Weed District Office, 3402 Cooney Dr., Helena MT 59602.

Boundaries

  • The District's area includes East Helena, Lake Helena, the County Fairgrounds, and the area North of Custer Ave., South of Lincoln Highway, and Westor Lake Helena Dr., Green Meadow Dr., and Birdseye.

Craig-Wolf Creek Mosquito District

History, Resolutions, and General Information:

  • Originally formed and boundaries designated in 1983 through Resolution 1983-46 by the Lewis & Clark County Commission.
  • Pursuant to MCA 7-11-1004, a special district in existence on July 1, 2009 continues in existence and remains subject to the provisions of the statutes under which is was related or established, as those status existed on June 30, 2009.
  • In 2011 Resolution 2011-191 was established and adopted with a Standard Policy on Board and Committee Appointments.
  • Authorization to create this district is set forth under Title 7, Chapter 22, Part 24 Mosquito Control District.

Lewis and Clark County Noxious Weed Division has a variety of rental equipment available not only for herbicides and Noxious Weed management but Insecticide Sprayer rentals as well. For questions or Drill reservations please call 406-447-8372.

  • Herbicide Sprayers: No Reservations, First Come First Serve
         Pull Trailer & Slide In's: $40 Day / $60 Weekend
         Backpack Sprayers: $10 Day / $20 Weekend
         ATV Hand Line: $20 Day / $40 Weekend
  • Insecticide Sprayer: No Reservations, First Come First Serve
         Pull Trailer: $100 Day / $200 Weekend
  • Drill Seeder: Reservations required
         $100 Day / $150 Weekend

Rental Equipment is available Monday-Thursday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm only, Friday pick up is unavailable.

Weekend rate is Thursday afternoon to Monday morning.
